SITA APIs Feature in Winning Entries at
THack @ Hamburg

October 26, 2015

A hectic weekend was enjoyed by our team at the recent TNooz/IATA hackathon in Hamburg where the first release of the IATA NDC (New Distribution Capability) APIs were on offer for eager hackers.

Following hot on the heels of the SIA App Challenge and Changi Airport hackathon the previous week, a full range of REST and SOAP APIs were accessible to complement and support the IATA initiative and inspire hackers to transform air travel passenger's discovery, shopping and on-board experience.

More than 60 developers in 17 teams took part in the event with typical teams comprising a couple of developers, a GUI expert, an ideas person and a presenter.

The winner of the SITA prize for the most innovative use of our APIs was also a joint winner of the Tnooz-IATA People’s Choice (as voted by THack @ Hamburg developers). Going it alone, the sole member of the Rocky team, Nikolay Derkach (pictured), employed the SITA Boarding Pass and Airport APIs and incorporated a SITA iBeacons array in his iPhone/iWatch app to emulate airport pre-security check-in and post-security duty-free shopping.

The SITAONAIR Inflight Wi-FI Voucher API also featured in a winning entry for the Perfect Trip team, whose profiling/analytics engine aimed to deliver a personalized, more comfortable journey. Some of the hackers shared their projects at IATA’s World Passenger Symposium which followed the hackathon in Hamburg.

A huge congratulations to all teams that won and competed in the event from the team
