Oct 27, 2016

We are always delighted to congratulate the innovation and creativity of teams that participate and win prizes in industry hackathons around the globe, but it is with special pride that we toast the achievement of our own team of SITA developers who recently won first prize in the Leisure Travel Solutions category at the recent IATA NDC hack in Dubai.

The winning team that created a cross-platform prototype of a mobile travel assistant for passengers comprised of software engineers from SITA’s software development center in Ireland.

The app which they presented was designed to enhance passenger experience and reduce stress at the airport by providing ‘on the go’ services including a transport timeline from home to final destination, flight and gate information, and context relevant promotions and options. Ongoing reminders and alerts keep the passenger up to date along the way.

A user-friendly interface integrated IATA NDC (New Distribution Capability) APIs along with the RouteHappy API and our own Developer.aero FlightInfo and Airport APIs to get passengers where they need to be, when they need to be there, with an enhanced retail experience en route.

SITA’s team at its software development center in Ireland collaborates with colleagues and customers across the world on mission-critical systems for airlines and airports. World-leading biometric products which are used by Governments to control borders are also developed and supported from here.

This winning prototype reflects the dynamic and innovative environment at the Irish development center which is continually being rejuvenated with fresh ideas from its vibrant graduate and intern program.
