Another Successful SIA App Challenge
Oct 10, 2016
The SIA App Challenge 2016 kicked off on the 1st October this with 280 participants signing up … about double the number from last year. After a week of intensive brain storming, coding and prototyping, the prize winners reaped their rewards at a grand finale on the 8th October at ‘The Hanger’ by NUS Enterprise, the flagship start-up facility of the National University of Singapore.
Prizes were awarded for first, second and third places in two categories, an open category and a student only category. Teams generally comprised of two to four people.
SITA was delighted to sponsor the event again for its second year, and it was a fantastic opportunity for representatives from the local SITA Singapore office and SITA Lab to mingle with the developers and see the inspiring and innovative ways that the SITA APIs and beacon technology were being integrated into a range of solutions to improve travellers’ experience, whether in the airport, inflight or at the destination.
It was also a huge bonus for us to see that the winning team in the student category used five of our APIs for their winning entry, the “SIA Chatbot”. This passenger chatbot provides support for search and ticketing tasks in addition to check-in and transport notifications, and inflight purchasing, with routing of customer service requests to the correct handling representatives. Messages were also sent to IBM® Watson Analytics™.
SITA APIs that were available and used by the teams and other finalists at this year’s event included BagJourney, Boarding Pass, FlightInfo, WaitTime and Weather APIs in addition to a Bluetooth Beacon infrastructure supported by the SITA Beacon API and Common Use Beacon Registry.
Finalist proposals showcased the very high standard of creativity shown by the teams in terms of the functionality, innovation and relevance of the idea and the teams’ own business knowledge and presentation style.
