BagTrac to BagJourney
June 13, 2014
Some of you may have noticed that we have removed our baggage tracking API, BagTrac, and replaced it with the BagJourney API recently. We are pleased to announce that, due to the success of market trials with the BagTrac API, this API has now graduated to being a fully fledged SITA product and part of SITA’s Baggage Management portfolio.
BagTrac started life within SITA Lab as a Proof of Concept to establish the feasibility of a product that would provide simple and secure access to global Baggage Information Messages (BIMs) captured by SITA’s message distribution, processing and analysis systems.
Since the launch of the API in November 2012, the data feed from the SITA BagMessage system started out slowly, processing only a handful of stations. It now processes, on average, 3.5 million messages per day from 60 airports for 248 airlines. BagTrac API processed over one billion messages throughout its trial without incurring a single glitch in its operation, due to the resilience of the high performance data exchange technology architecture on which it is based.
BagJourney aims to build on the success and reliability of its predecessor and new features will be added to its real-time baggage tracking capabilities in the near future.
